One of the most difficult things for learners of the Arabic language is distinguishing between the hamzat al-wasl and the hamzat al-qata’, as confusing them can lead to common errors in writing and pronunciation.
Hamzat al-Wasl
The hamzat al-wasl is a hamza that is not pronounced when connected to what precedes it and only appears at the beginning of a word. It is used in some nouns, verbs, and letters.
Hamzat al-qata’
The hamzat al-qata’ is always pronounced in any position, whether at the beginning of a word or connected to what precedes it. It often occurs in nouns, verbs, and some letters.
